The reasons why PS Plus gives out different free games in different region

Last time we talked about the amount you can save up with 1 year of PS Plus membership, and some fans were asking why PS Plus gives out different games in different region. Does PlayStation favour certain region over the others? We were curious about this too, so we had a read through the official site and got you the answers.

Here is the official statement from the official site:

Different countries have different rights, release schedules and, as many of you know, have different things available in their PlayStation Store for this reason. We are constantly working to align our content globally, but to also ensure that our audience gets the content that is available to them as some games are released globally on different schedules.

We reached out to PlayStation, they also added this:

We are pleased to be providing users with two selected free PS4 titles each month, making it possible for players to grow their library through their membership from the moment they join.

Now it is clear that PlayStation doesn’t favour any region, but due to copyright, release schedules and various reasons, they couldn’t offer the same free content for every region. For example, Shadow of the Tomb Raider was released under Bandai Namco in Asia, while in Japan, the game is released under Square Enix. This leads to different marketing strategies in different region, and thus, different region gets the different free games.

Just like what was said above, PlayStation is constantly working to align their content globally, but it is pretty difficult to achieve due to various reasons. Sometimes you will see PlayStation giving out free games that were given out in other regions previously too, so you won’t miss out anything!
