The Epic Games Store has launched for PC and Mac last December with a free game given out every 2 weeks. We have been wondering when will it come for the mobile platforms, and now it is confirmed to arrive on Android sometime in 2019, with exclusive apps!
The news is confirmed by Epic Games founder Tim Sweeney, as he said in an interview with Game Informer.
The Epic Games store is launching on PC and Mac in 2018, and Android later in 2019. We’d like to launch on iOS in 2019, however, that is in apparent conflict with current Apple policy.
Of course, Epic’s own games such as Fortnite will be exclusively available on the Epic Games Store. We will probably get more exclusive games and apps in the future, as according to Tim Sweeney they would fund developers to launch games exclusively on the store.
Also, there are reports saying that Epic would only ask for a 12% revenue cut from developers (just like how it does on PC) compared to Google’s 30%. If this is true, the launch of Epic Games Store on mobile devices will give pressure to Google Play (Apple too), suggesting it to change its revenue split. Perhaps we can expect an intense competition between Epic and Google stores soon?
