Publisher Cygames announced an upcoming new Granblue Fantasy game titled Granblue Fantasy: Relink during the weekend. Following the announcement, director Tetsuya Fukuhara shared some details of the game with Famitsu.
GranBlue Fantasy: Relink is a spin-off of the original GranBlue Fantasy for the smartphone. Relink plays as an action RPG, a departure from the turn-based RPG of the original. Furthermore, the game will launch on the PS4 instead of the smartphone. In addition to the announcement, Cygames debuted the latest trailer and a new gameplay of Relink.
According to the director, GranBlue Fantasy: Relink takes place in Zega Grand, a location which appeared for a bit in the original. He cited that development focused on being friendly to newer players, hence the choice for a world without prior knowledge required.
Furthermore, he states that he cannot confirm the total number of playable characters for the game. On the other hand, players can unlock new characters by meeting certain requirements during the story. As for multiplayer, players can only select from their unlocked characters. Same characters from different players are allowed in multiplayer.
In addition to the release on the PS4, the director also mentions that they would like to release the game on Steam. However, a Steam release may not come anytime soon. He cited the development of other in-house projects and a focus on the console to take priority.
At the moment, Cygames has not announced a release date for Granblue Fantasy: Relink. However, fans may not need to wait long. Since they have released a gameplay of the game, we can expect that development will finish in the near future.
