At its special Dissidia Final Fantasy NT community broadcast, Square Enix took the opportunity to showcase the “Later Years of Tidus & Yuna” illustration by Tetsuya Nomura, which also saw the devs touch a little on Final Fantasy X-3.
Seiyuu Marika Kouno, a huge fan Final Fantasy X, asked during the broadcast if there has been any sort of consideration apart from X-2 for a spinoff, sequel, or perhaps a DLC of sorts pertaining to Final Fantasy X. Yoshinori Kitase stated the latest story for Final Fantasy X is recorded voice drama for the HD remaster of the game, and that indeed was thought of making a Final Fantasy X-3. However, much of the team were too pre-occupied for anything of that sort to happen.
As for the illustration itself, Tetsuya Nomura had it drawn specifically for the voice drama and it was part of the Final Fantasy 30th Anniversary Exhibition held in Tokyo earlier in 2018. Takeo Kujiraoka, Dissidia Final Fantasy Director, told the artist that there have been requests to turn the Later Years designs into outfits, only to be told to have Final Fantasy X-3 made first.
