Epic Games has removed all Infinity Blade games from the App Store. The franchise has remained dormant since the release of Infinity Blade 3 in 2013. At that time, developers announced that the third game marked the end of the planned trilogy. However, Epic Games continued to support the game until now.
In their statement, Epic Games revealed that it has been increasingly difficult for the team to support the franchise while meeting company standards. Players who owned Infinity Blade can still re-download it on their phone. However, in-app purchases are disabled.
The timing of the removal can be speculated to relate to the release of the Epic Games Store. Furthermore, the increasing popularity of Fortnite may have played a hand in the removal. If true, this will not be the first time something like this happened. Earlier this year, Epic Games put a stop to their MOBA, Paragon, citing the need to focus on Fortnite. Additionally, they have recently halted development on the Unreal Tournament reboot, once again citing Fortnite.
However, this will not be the last time we see of Infinity Blade. A recent update added swords to Fortnite and the titular Infinity Blade makes its appearance in game. The sword only appears in Polar Peak and only 1 exists per match. It deals extremely high damage as well as provide the user with a number of bonuses including health regeneration.
