Obsidian Entertainment revealed their latest game, The Outer Worlds, at The Game Awards 2018 today. Based on the trailer, the game can be summed up as Fallout New Vegas in space.
Developed by Obsidian Entertainment, The Outer Worlds carries that Fallout vibe. In addition, the co-creators of Fallout (Tim Cain and Leonard Boyarsky) led the project. The game carries a rather humorous tone as seen from the trailer. Furthermore, the game plays as a single player RPG similar to Fallout games prior to Fallout 76. However, the difference is that The Outer Worlds takes place in space.
In the Outer Worlds, players will play as a character who just woke up from hibernation on a colonist ship. The game will take place in Halcyon, the furthest colony of Earth. The player eventually finds out that corporations have taken control of the colony. Player decisions have impacts on the story in this player-driven game.
The game will launch on the Playstation 4, Xbox One and PC despite Microsoft having acquired Obsidian Entertainment last month. However, it seems that Microsoft is honoring the arrangement between Obsidian and Private Division prior to the acquirement.
At the moment, the developers have not mentioned an exact release date. However, the game will most likely launch sometime in 2019.
