Ever picked a name for your PSN ID and you’ve regretted it for being cliche like “xXxReaper69xXx”? Well Sony has given us a chance to change it but the feature will come somewhere in early 2019. However, for those who have registered as testers for previous PS4 system software betas, users can already experience this feature.
For those who want to change their names, only the authorized user can access the feature. This is through the Settings menu or via the Profile page of the PS4. At this point, users will also need to decide if they’d want to display their previous PSN ID alongside their new one (this allows their friends list to recognize them). Users can also opt not to display their previous PSN ID but it is not revertible later.
The name change is FREE for the first time but it will be charged at the cost of $10 USD/CAD / €9.99 / £7.99 (MYR 41.57). However PlayStation Plus members will be charged at a cheaper rate at $5 USD/CAD / €4.99 / £3.99 (MYR 20.79). This name change feature is also not compatible with all games. For now, it is only compatible with PS4 games that were released after April 1st, 2018. So not all PS4, PS3 and PS Vita games are guaranteed to support the feature and might see issues or errors in certain games. Should there be any issues, PlayStation can help revert back to the old ID for FREE.
Currently, the preview program is set to run till the end of November 2018. For those who did not register as testers for previous PS4 system software betas will have to wait for the feature to be rolled out for all PS4 in early 2019. By that time, all PS4 games should be compatible with the feature.
