After a few delays, the long-awaited Kingdom Heart III has finally set its launch date on January 29, 2019. The official once said that they will be inheriting game systems from Kingdom Heart HD 2.8 in Kingdom Heart III, and we agreed with it after trying out the demo at PSX SEA 2018. But still, some interesting settings are added to Kingdom Hearts III. Check out our first impression below for more details!
Here is our gameplay:
Similar to Kingdom Hearts HD 2.8, you can fill up the command bar by battling continuously in Kingdom Hearts III, and be able to release a different kind of attacks when the bar is filled up. For example, I could turn my Keyblade into Hyper Hammar, then turns it into Drill Punch to attack in the world of Toy Box.
Fill up the command bar again and you will be able to release various types of finishing moves. Some of the few finishing moves that I tried are Rocket Ruckus and Pirate Ship, every finishing move has their unique gameplay which is definitely an eye candy.
Just like the previous titles, KH3 features the Free Flow Action system – you can move across the different platforms freely along with its gorgeous effects. There are some platforms that you can climb or run upwards on it too. During the stage where we battle with the Giants, the Giants will frequently try to block your movement by throwing stones at you. We believe this kind of moving mechanism will apply to the various world in KH3 as well.
Interestingly, we can control Robots to fight in the world of Toy Box (this is a part that left me a deep impression). You can get inside the defeated Robots to control them via the first-person view. The basic attacks include laser cannon and punch, while the triangular ultimate move is different for different Robots. You would want to try controlling different Robots and of course, you can fight without driving any Robots (however, it is easier to fight against Robots using Robots).
Unfortunately, we didn’t manage to try out the combos of Donald or Goofy. The story lacks information too, the only part of the story that we experience are the hilarious scenes when Sora and his friends first arrived in the world of Toy Box.
In short, Kingdom Hearts III features simplified controls with a lot of QTEs that remind us of Kingdom Hearts HD 2.8 a lot. Combining the different finishing moves and the simple controls will be something interesting to look forward into! Kingdom Heart III is releasing on PS4 and Xbox One on January 29, 2019, you can visit the official site for more information.
