Just yesterday when the Anime Expo held at Los Angeles Convention Center was flooding with people and exciting events, there was one that caught the people’s attention, the Sunrise’s Anime Expo Panel. Sunrise Inc. is a subsidiary company of Bandai Namco Entertainment and they are most famous for their original Gundam animated series.
During the Sunrise’s Anime Expo Panel, Yasuo Miyakawa, the president & CEO of Sunrise Inc., was there to make an announcement. It was a pleasured surprise when they revealed that Sunrise Inc. will be collaborating with Legendary Pictures to produce a live-action Gundam film! It was seen that Cale Boyter, the producer for the recent Pacific Rim: Uprising, present and shook hands with Yasuo Miyakawa! They had even revealed a short teaser clip, indicating that they are already working on the movie!
Check out the teaser below:
My only wish is that it will not turn out to be like this one below….
G-Saviour the Movie was first released back in year 2000. Back then, it was a joint venture with an independent film making studio, Polestar Entertainment, with Sunrise. The movie was quite the disaster and was rated 4/10 by IMdB. The casts were all…Caucasians and there was not a single Japanese actor there despite Gundam originated from Japan. This is what we call whitewashing in the film industry.
I hope that the upcoming live-action Gundam movie will not practice whitewashing.
