Today at KLIA, we have witnessed the tremendous growth of eSports in Southeast Asia with the partnership of AirAsia and Alisports. AirAsia has come on board as the Official Airline Partner for the World Electronic Sports Games (WESG) in Asean. As WESG, known as an international eSports championship tournament by Alisports, the sports branch of Alibaba Group, AirAsia stepping in to become the official Airline Partner further promotes the growth of eSports in the SEA region.
“In terms of eSports enthusiasts, Asean is one of the fastest growing regions in the world with 9.3 million fans, a number expected to grow 36.1% every year through to 2019. As an innovative digital company, we are thrilled to be the title sponsor and to contribute to eSports by supporting Asean’s top professional eSports athletes to compete at the global tournament. We also believe this sponsorship puts us at the forefront of the expansion of eSports across Asean.” said AirAsia Group Berhad Executive Chairman & AirAsia X Group CEO Datuk Kamarudin Meranun
