Top 10 Games of E3 2018

The Electronic Entertainment Expo or E3, has come and gone, showcasing some of the biggest games we can expect to be playing in the coming year. Here’s a compilation of the games which have won us over:

Death Stranding

We got our first glimpse of gameplay from Hideo Kojima’s upcoming creation, but we are no closer to understanding that this title entails.

We see protagonist Sam carrying packages on his back while traversing a seemingly hostile environment. If anything, the trailer creates more questions than it answers, but with Kojima at the helm, we can trust the the end product will deliver.

Sekiro: Shadows Die Twice

FromSoftware’s releases are synonymous with difficulty and quality, as exemplified by its Dark Souls and Bloodbourne games, and this time around, we are taken to Japan during its Warring States period.

The trailer suggests that it will be as challenging as other entries by the developer, so if you are a fan of dying a lot, there is much to look forward to.

Ghost of Tsushima

Sucker Punch made a name for itself with its Infamous series, and Ghost of Tsushima is shaping to be a far departure from that. The game is set during feudal Japan in 1274 when the Mongol Empire invaded.

This samurai-themed game boasts gorgeous environments and tense sword battles. It is rare for a Western first party developers to work on a game of this type, so it would be interesting how this shapes up.

Cyberpunk 2077

This is a game that has been under development for a very long time, so it is reassuring to see that progress has been made.

As shown in the trailer, Cyberpunk 2077 showcases a futuristic yet bleak society marked by poverty and intense violence. This will be a full-fledged RPG where you will be able to create a character from scratch that you can play in any matter you like.

Hitman 2

This is the direct sequel to the 2016 game which injected new life in a game about assassinations. This time around, all missions will be made available to players from the start, following complaints that arose from the episodic nature of the previous installment.

The game is very much the Hitman game fans know, and we look forward to what missions Agent 47 will take on this time around.

Fallout 76

Bethesda’s post-apocalyptic action RPG has gotten a new sequel and this time around, there is emphasis on multiplayer. The world is said four times larger than in Fallout 4, and will be populated solely by human players, in addition to robots and monsters.

If you are not a fan of playing games online, the developer has promised a single-player mode which you can enjoy as well.

Kingdom Hearts 3

Another game which has been in development for eons, we got another good look as to what to expect from Square Enix’s flagship Kingdom Hearts series. We got to see additional worlds and new characters joining the ensemble and hopefully this time around, we may finally see it when it is made available worldwide on 29 January 2018.

Devil May Cry 5

Touted as a proper sequel to Devil May Cry 4 from 2008, rather than the reboot from 2013, DMC5 reintroduces Dante and Nero for over the top shooting and slashing action one would come to expect from the series by now.

Resident Evil 2 Remake

No one quite expected this to make a showing at E3, but Capcom’s long-awaited remake of Resident Evil 2 has finally seen the light of day. The trailer showcases a completely overhauled version of the  survival horror classic.

For example, the old pre-rendered backdrops now make way for full 3D environments, with the camera now being the over-the-shoulder perspective seen in Resident Evil 4 and the newer entries. These aside, this is the Resident Evil 2 we all know.

Nioh 2

We got to see Team Ninja’s sequel to its answer to the the Soulsbourne genre, so to speak. Not much is known about the game at this point in time, since the trailer is the very first instance of the game being revealed, although we can speculate from what has been shown.

We see someone who appears to be the protagonist being struck down, before he subsequently pulls demon horns out of his own head, turning him into a monstrosity of some sort. This is followed by the tagline: Defy death. Death defies you.
