GSC, the largest cinema chain in Malaysia, has announced that COLORFUL STAGE! The Movie: A Miku Who Can’t Sing will be screening in Malaysian theaters soon. The 2025 Japanese animated science fiction musical drama film, which debuted in Japanese theaters on January 17, 2025, is based on the smartphone rhythm game “Hatsune Miku: Colorful Stage!” developed by Colorful Palette and published by Sega. The game has accumulated over 39 million downloads worldwide.

Produced by acclaimed animation studio P.A. Works and distributed by Shochiku, the film is directed by Hiroyuki Hata with screenplay by Yoko Yonaiyama. It marks a significant milestone as the first film to feature the iconic Virtual Singer Hatsune Miku.
The story follows Ichika, a high school musician who can enter a mysterious realm called “SEKAI” where she and her friends express their emotions through music alongside Hatsune Miku. After a live performance, Ichika encounters a new version of Miku who struggles to connect with listeners despite her efforts to sing. The narrative follows this Miku’s journey to rediscover her voice with the help of others.
