Capcom has released a new trailer for their highly anticipated title, Onimusha: Way of the Sword, offering fans a detailed look at the game’s protagonist and combat system. The latest entry in the beloved action series, set to release in 2026, takes place in an early Edo period Kyoto corrupted by a mysterious force known as the Malice.
In a significant departure for the series, players will step into the role of the legendary swordsman Miyamoto Musashi, voiced by Kenichiro Thomson. While previous Onimusha games have featured historical figures like Samanosuke Akechi and Jubei Yagyu, this marks the first time the globally renowned Musashi will headline the series. Adding to the authenticity of the character, Capcom has utilized the likeness of celebrated Japanese actor Toshiro Mifune as the face model for Musashi, bringing the iconic samurai’s fierce presence to life in the digital realm.

The trailer showcases the game’s visceral combat system, highlighting intense sword-fighting mechanics and strategic environmental interactions. Players can utilize elements of the setting, such as tatami mats and kimonos, to gain tactical advantages during battles. The footage also reveals a variety of special finishing moves that can be executed with different swords.

Among the enemies featured in the trailer is Byakue, a formidable Genma wielding a massive axe, emerging from a mysterious aerial phenomenon. The game introduces various types of Genma, including the Hitotsume Gasa – sword, bow, and shield-wielding creatures that attack in groups and are driven by an insatiable hunger for human flesh. These demons, normally confined to hell, have invaded the mortal realm due to the spreading Malice, throwing Kyoto into chaos.
Onimusha: Way of the Sword will be available on PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X|S, and Steam platforms when it launches in 2026.
