PlayStation (5) May Come In The Next 3 Years

Just recently, we were informed that the PlayStation 4 is at its last life cycle which they will be holding on in the market through exclusive games and first-party titles for the PS4. However Sony Interactive Entertainment has just made another announcement as stated in WSJ, that the next PlayStation console will be in ready in the next 3 years. This only makes sense as technological advancements goes, the next console is inevitable. But for now, the PlayStation 4’s lifespan will have to hold out till the next generation PlayStation console take its place.

“We will use the next three years to prepare the next step, to crouch down so that we can jump higher in the future,” said Tsuyoshi “John” Kodera.

“We need to depart from the traditional way of looking at the console life cycle,” he said. “We’re no longer in a time when you can think just about the console or just about the network like they’re two different things.”

Mr. Kodera further mentioned that the next PlayStation will be looking to incorporate mobility just like the Nintendo’s popular Switch console that can be used at home and as a portable device. With current devices which are mostly connected via the internet, Mr. Kodera said that it does not want its console to be limited by a single dedicated device.

Will that mean Sony will be coming up with multiple devices and not just consoles that will allow us to connect seamlessly via the internet? Though this is not new with the existence of Sony’s Remote Play capability which allows players to play their PlayStation games on-the-go with their PS Vita or other Sony devices (supported Xperia devices).
