Sony Celebrates PlayStation’s 30th Anniversary with Nostalgic PS5 Update

Sony has marked PlayStation’s 30th anniversary with a special PS5 update that takes players on a nostalgic journey through the brand’s iconic history. Released on December 3, 2024, the update introduces retro-inspired themes, startup animations, and more, paying homage to PlayStation’s legacy.

Upon installing the update, players can choose their favorite generation, customizing their PS5 dashboard with themes from the PS1, PS2, PS3, or PS4 eras. Each theme replicates the unique design, colors, and sound effects of its respective console.

For instance, the PS2 theme incorporates its signature menu shapes, while the PS3 and PS4 bring their wave-patterned designs to life. Adding to the retro charm, the PS1’s startup animation greets users with its iconic chime, a sound etched into gaming history.

Players can easily explore and switch between these nostalgic options via a new “PlayStation 30th Anniversary” tab in the settings menu. However, these features are only available for a limited time, with no specified end date.

Sony’s celebration extends beyond the update.
