Sakuna: Of Rice and Ruin Spin-off, Sakuna Chronicles: Kokorowa and the Gears of Creation Announced

Publishers Marvelous, XSEED Games, and Marvelous Europe have announced Sakuna Chronicles: Kokorowa and the Gears of Creation, a new spin-off title from the Sakuna: Of Rice and Ruin series. Edelweiss, the studio behind the original action platformer and farming simulation hit, is developing the game.

This new entry marks the beginning of an expanding Sakuna franchise and will focus on Princess Kokorowa, a character familiar to fans of the original game. As a high-ranking goddess who oversees wheels and inventions, Kokorowa’s story will unfold in her heavenly domain, departing from the earthly setting of the original title.

The original game told the story of Sakuna, a spoiled harvest goddess banished from her celestial home to demon-infested Hinoe Island. Players followed her journey of redemption as she honed her divine powers through rice cultivation while fighting alongside human outcasts and her guardian, Tama.

While platforms and release date details remain under wraps, the announcement comes alongside other exciting developments for the franchise. Fans can look forward to a continuation of the Sakuna: Of Rice and Ruin television anime series and an upcoming smartphone game, though developers have not yet revealed details for these projects.
