Destiny Child fans, rejoice! After shutting down in September 2023, the beloved RPG is being revived—this time as an idle RPG by Com2uS. The revival marks a significant evolution for the game, originally known for its real-time battle mechanics, intricate storylines, and eye-catching Live 2D character art.
Developed by Shift Up and released in 2016, Destiny Child quickly amassed a global fanbase due to its unique art style, immersive story, and strategic gameplay. Players cherished the ability to recruit characters with distinct personalities, participate in real-time battles, and collaborate in large-scale World Boss events. However, after nearly seven years, Shift Up decided to end the game’s service last year, leaving a void in the gaming community especially fans of Destiny Child.
Now, Com2uS has announced a partnership with Shift Up to bring Destiny Child back to life in a new genre. Tiki Taka Studio, Com2uS’ subsidiary, known for developing the popular casual RPG Arcana Tactics, will lead development. Meanwhile, Com2uS will handle the game’s global publishing and distribution.
In a translated statement, a Com2uS representative emphasized the game’s new direction, saying, “Through collaboration with Shift Up and Tiki Taka Studio, we plan to create an immersive idle RPG that maximizes the emotional impact of the Destiny Child IP while still being accessible and enjoyable for a broader audience.” The company also shared its intent to expand its game portfolio further in 2024, aiming to diversify its lineup with self-published and high-quality IP-driven games.
Com2uS has a strong track record of publishing hit mobile games, such as Summoners War, which continues to be a major success internationally. Their experience and dedication to delivering high-quality games with strong global appeal make them a fitting publisher for the new iteration of Destiny Child.
