The ongoing PlayStation 5 beta test of Monster Hunter Wilds has unveiled the game’s enhanced character creation system, demonstrating significant improvements in facial customization options. Players have already begun pushing the boundaries of what’s possible with the new tools, even without mod support typically available on PC platforms.
The beta’s character creator introduces expanded customization features, including detailed age modification options that allow players to add realistic wrinkles and age-related characteristics to their hunters. While the beta version limits some customization options, the system maintains a high degree of freedom for facial features.
Players have quickly demonstrated the versatility of the creation tools, with some attempting to recreate real-world personalities, such as Japanese model Suzuki Emi, while others have embraced the system’s flexibility to create more unconventional appearances ranging from strikingly beautiful to intentionally ugly designs.

This character creation system is part of the larger beta test of Monster Hunter Wilds running from October 29th to November 4th, 2024, with PlayStation Plus subscribers receiving early access. Notably, all character creation data from the beta will transfer to the full game when it launches on February 28th, 2025, for PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X|S, and PC.
The beta requires approximately 29 GB of storage space and includes additional features beyond character creation, such as the Story Trial and Doshaguma Hunt quest, though progress in these areas will not carry over to the final release.
