Ubisoft reportedly rejected expansion and sequel proposals for Prince of Persia The Lost Crown from the Ubisoft Montpellier team before ultimately disbanding it and reallocating its members to other projects within the company.
This information comes from Gautoz, a French journalist known for covering Ubisoft, particularly their Montpellier team. A translated summary of Gautoz’s 30-minute video was shared by Arubedo on ResetEra. According to Gautoz, Ubisoft quickly lost confidence in The Lost Crown after its release due to disappointing sales, even though the game received critical acclaim. Attempts by the development team to secure funding for expansions or a sequel were declined by higher-ups, who believed that a sequel would not perform well and that releasing another title could negatively impact the long-term sales of the original game.
In January, Insider Gaming reported that Prince of Persia The Lost Crown sold approximately 300,000 copies within its first two weeks on the market, indicating a commercial struggle for the title, which is available on PlayStation 4, PlayStation 5, Xbox One, Xbox Series X/S, Nintendo Switch, and Windows PC via Steam & Epic Games Store.
In related news, the publisher has also faced setbacks with the Assassin’s Creed Shadows project, as the early access of the game was recently canceled which we have covered in an article here recently.
