Genshin Impact’s Latest 5.1 Update Is Missing English Voiceovers

Hoyoverse’s Genshin Impact latest update 5.1 is said to be missing English voiceovers in certain areas within the game to which the game’s developer commented as it is due to “recording arrangements” issues. “Due to recording arrangements, some content in version 5.1 does not have English voice overs,” HoYoverse also added. “We sincerely apologize for the inconvenience caused.”

Though the exact specifics such as what lines are missing, weren’t revealed in the patch notes but we may be able to speculate that it had something to do with the SAG-AFTRA strike action by video game actors over AI concerns. The strike happened on July 26th 2024 with the strike’s objective to address the current state of the voice acting industry especially when it comes to their working conditions and the push for AI within the industry.

The significance behind the strike can be felt and seen especially across multiple of Hoyoverse’s different IPs and not just Genshin Impact. According to Eurogamer, Kinich (played by John Patneaude) and Kachina (played by Kristen McGuire) will not have voice acting in the latest story update for the Natlan Archon Quest. Each update features limited-time events that last for six weeks, which means the main event in version 5.1 might not be fully voiced either.

In addition, Adam Michael Gold was swapped out of the voice role for Argenti (replaced by Talon Warburton) and Mr. Tail (replaced by Aaron Veach) in Honkai: Star Rail, while Courtney Lin, who voiced Huohuo in Honkai Star Rail and Lucy in Zenless Zone Zero, had also been replaced, along with an unnamed actor for Soukaku. These changes all happened following the strike’s occurence back in July and are mentioned in the respective games’ respective patch notes.
