Ubisoft and Ubisoft Quebec have announced a delay for their highly anticipated title, Assassin’s Creed Shadows. Originally slated for release on November 15, 2024, the game will now launch on February 14, 2025. The game will be available on multiple platforms, including PlayStation 5, Xbox Series, PC, Mac via App Store, and Luna. Notably, this marks the first time in recent years that a new Assassin’s Creed title will be available on Steam at launch.
In a statement, Ubisoft explained the reason for the delay:
“Assassin’s Creed Shadows is a dream project for us; finally bringing the series to Feudal Japan with many features developed with our community in mind, such as parkour or the renewed stealth, brought by new technology, all set in a beautiful and immersive world. This is an ambitious addition to the franchise, a rich experience that can be lived through the eyes of two unique protagonists – but we realize we need more time to polish and refine the experience, pushing further some of our key features.”
Alongside the delay announcement, Ubisoft revealed changes to their pre-order strategy. In addition, the company is moving away from the Season Pass model for Assassin’s Creed Shadows. Ubisoft will refund all existing pre-orders and include the first expansion at no additional cost for future pre-orders.
Marc-Alexis Cote, speaking on behalf of the development team, acknowledged the disappointment this news might bring to fans, particularly those eagerly awaiting an Assassin’s Creed game set in Feudal Japan. However, he emphasized that they made this decision to deliver the best possible player experience. Assassin’s Creed Shadows will feature two protagonists, Naoe and Yasuke, offering players a unique dual perspective on the game’s story and world.
