SEGA has shared new information about the upcoming JRPG Metaphor: ReFantazio regarding its world and other details. The game developed by ATLUS’s Studio Zero is set to release on October 11, 2024, on the Xbox Series X|S, PlayStation 4, PlayStation 5, and PC.
The Kingdom of Euchronia, a federation of three nations with eight different tribes, serves as the setting for the game. Each tribe has its own looks and culture. The game explores themes of anxiety, discrimination, and the power of facing one’s fears. Special tools called magic igniters control magic in Euchronia. However, the main characters will awaken to a long-lost power called Archetype, which emerges when they confront their fears and anxieties.
The eight tribes in the game are:
- Clemar: The largest tribe, known for their horns and influential government positions.
- Roussainte: Physically strong with pointed ears, often found in military roles.
- Rhoag: Long-lived tribe that values tradition and knowledge.
- Ishkia: Winged tribe with a small population but still has a strong presence in cities.
- Nidia: Known for their distinctive rainbow-colored eyes.
- Paripus: Animal-like tribe with ears and tails, known for their physical nature.
- Eugief: Small, bat-like tribe that often faces discrimination.
- Mustari: Mysterious tribe with a third eye, following their own religion.
The game also mentions a ninth tribe, the Elda, whom officials do not count among the eight and who face significant prejudice. The world is threatened by monsters called “humans,” bizarre creatures born from the anxiety-produced particles known as magla. These monsters pose a significant threat to the kingdom and its inhabitants.
Metaphor: ReFantazio aims to explore themes of anxiety, discrimination, and the power of overcoming one’s fears through its unique fantasy setting and diverse cast of characters.
