SEGA released new story information about the highly anticipated RPG Metaphor: ReFantazio, developed by ATLUS’s Studio Zero. The game, set to launch on October 11, 2024, will be available on Xbox Series X|S, Windows, PlayStation 4, PlayStation 5, and PC via Steam.
Metaphor: ReFantazio takes place in a unique world inhabited by eight different tribes. The game’s setting is the Kingdom of Euchronia, a once-powerful realm now plagued by decay, prejudice, and disparity. The kingdom’s stability is further shaken when both the prince and king are assassinated, leaving the citizens without a ruler.
Furthermore, as the October 11th release date approaches, fans of ATLUS RPGs can look forward to experiencing this new fantasy world filled with political machinations, magical challenges, and a unique take on the classic “race for the throne” narrative.
Story Details
The story follows a young protagonist from the Elda, a minority tribe in Euchronia. Accompanied by a fairy named Gallica, the hero embarks on a journey to lift a deadly curse placed on the kingdom’s prince.
In a surprising twist, the deceased king activates a grand spell upon his death, initiating a race for the throne decided by popular vote. Consequently, this unprecedented event, known as the Tournament for the Throne, requires candidates to prove their worth by facing challenges in various cities across the kingdom.
The game’s world is described as vast and perilous, with vicious animals roaming the land and mysterious creatures known as “humans” inhabiting areas outside the cities. In addition, this dangerous environment adds to the challenges faced by the protagonist and their allies as they navigate the kingdom.
The Tournament for the Throne introduces a unique political element to the game. Additionally, candidates must visit major cities across Euchronia to participate in various trials. The first challenge, called the Exhibition of the Brave, takes place in Port Brilehaven and involves a competition to bring in the largest monster head. Successful candidates will then move on to challenges in Altabury Heights and Gran Trad.
As players progress through the story, they will uncover the complex history of Euchronia, including its foundation by a valiant first king and subsequent rule by a magically powerful royal bloodline. Furthermore, the game promises to explore themes of prejudice, disparity, and the struggle for power in a decaying kingdom.
