Marvelous has announced that their upcoming title, Rune Factory: Guardians of Azuma, will be launching in spring 2025 for Nintendo Switch and PC via Steam. This new installment in the beloved Rune Factory series promises to bring a fresh twist to the franchise’s signature blend of action-RPG and life-simulation gameplay.
The game takes place in the eastern lands of Azuma, a region devastated by an event known as the Celestial Collapse. This calamity, caused by a massive object crashing into the land, has shattered the earth and disrupted the flow of rune power, leading to the disappearance of nature gods and the withering of the environment. Players will assume the role of an Earth Dancer, tasked with using their newfound powers to combat the spreading corruption and restore hope to Azuma. Additionally, the narrative begins with the protagonist awakening from a dream of dueling dragons, setting the stage for an epic adventure.
Guardians of Azuma introduces several new elements to the Rune Factory formula. Additionally, players will wield sacred treasures and utilize the power of dance to purify the land and fight against the Blight. Beyond managing a farm, players will rebuild entire villages, placing buildings and attracting residents to contribute to the community’s revival. The game also introduces fresh weapons like bows and talismans to complement the series’ existing arsenal.
Furthermore, Azuma features seasonal-themed villages with aesthetics heavily influenced by traditional Japanese culture, including new festivals and reimagined fan-favorite events. Players can choose between male and female protagonists and engage in the series’ trademark relationship-building mechanics. The game will feature a cast of romance candidates with fully voiced scenarios, who can also be recruited as battle companions.
