Frost Giant Studios has officially launched Stormgate into Early Access on July 31, 2024, marking a significant milestone for the highly anticipated sci-fi real-time strategy game. Founded in 2020 by Blizzard veterans who worked on Starcraft 2 and Warcraft 3, the studio has garnered substantial support, raising over $35 million from investors and an additional $2.4 million through a Kickstarter campaign.
Frost Giant Studios will release the full free-to-play version on August 13, but eager players can gain immediate access by purchasing Early Access packs for $25, $40, or $60. These paid packages offer additional cosmetics and story missions, allowing supporters to dive into the game two weeks early.
At launch, Stormgate offers a robust set of features. Players can choose from three playable factions: Vanguard, Infernals, and Celestials. The game includes a 1v1 competitive mode with seven maps, as well as a 3-player co-op mode featuring six maps and five heroes. The game offers six campaign missions, including three free prologue missions to get players started. The initial release also introduces the first set of Tier 3 units.
The development team has outlined an ambitious roadmap for the remainder of 2024 and beyond. Later this year, players can expect several additions to the game. These include a new co-op map, two additional heroes for 3-player co-op, and three new campaign missions.
Frost Giant Studios emphasizes their commitment to regular content updates every few months, aiming to keep the game fresh without overwhelming players. They also stress that the roadmap is subject to change based on player feedback and the realities of game development.
