Nihon Falcom President Toshihiro Kondo has revealed in an interview that they are currently working on a new remake during Anime Expo 2024.
While there are no official announcements about said remake, we can hazard a guess that they are probably working on either the Trails in the Sky trilogy or a Ys X title. Fans have made it abundantly clear that they really want the Trails in the Sky trilogy to come back and Falcom has expressed the desire to bring it to modern consoles.
Trails in the Sky was released in Japan in 2004 on Windows and 2006 on the PlayStation Portable (PSP). It is a part of The Legend of Heroes franchise. The franchise has sold over 7.5 million copies worldwide as of January 2024.
Here’s what President Toshihiro Kondo said during the interview:
“It’s a bit tough as a creator not to want to go and maybe touch up these old games and remake them. It is definitely a desire as a creator to do that. Honestly, I can’t talk about the details, but there is a title that we’re working on that could be considered a remake. Expect to hear about this title before the end of this year.”
With the release of the western version of The Legend of Heroes: Trails through Daybreak 2 coming in early 2025, we can hope to see older Falcom titles getting a new remake in the future. Pre-order is available now for the deluxe and limited edition. The game will be available on PS5, PS4, Nintendo Switch and PC via Steam, Epic Games Store and GOG.
