Following recent rumors about the possible release of PlayStation 5 this year may not be entirely true. Though it’s been nearly 5 years since the release of PlayStation 4, it’s launched 7 years after the PlayStation 3. So it’s unlikely that the PlayStation 5 will be released within this period of time as the specs are is good for a couple more years. Since there are no concrete answers yet from the side of Sony, these speculations and rumors are just something that was brought about by players who are worried to spend their money on a PlayStation 4 now.
There is a site called SemiAccurate who has released accurate info the PS4 back in 2013, which leaves people believing that they do have the info for the alleged PS5. However to read the details of it, readers will have to pay a subscription fee of $1,000 for a year’s worth of access. But a member of ResetEra posted and summarized some details of what was in the article. This may be a hoax but I do believe there are some truths to it as Sony might just be covering up to get a headstart in the industry against their competitors.
Nonetheless, further probing the internet has also landed upon the details of a PS5 devkits. The PS5 devkits are distributed to game developers for their production of games optimized for the specific console. The devkits comes with the consoles’ operating system and other “debug” features that allow developers to access to the hardware. These kits are also useful for developers to debug and prepare for certification which Sony uses to process, test and approve new games.
Looking at how recent the PS4 Pro which was released in November 2016, we can’t really expect the release of PS5 to be so soon. Some sites mentioned late 2018, or 2019, and some even suggested it to be in 2020. There are word spreading around stating that representatives for a certain publisher had dropped vague hints about the 2020 timeframe. However due to the advancement of technology, it’s hard to say when we could get a revolutionary upgrade of a console in the near future.
