Capcom announced that the lifetime sales of Monster Hunter Stories 2: Wings of Ruin have topped 2 million units worldwide, ahead of the game’s third anniversary on July 9th.
Monster Hunter Stories 2: Wings of Ruin, a family-friendly turn-based RPG take on the Monster Hunter series, was first released on July 9, 2021, for the Nintendo Switch and PC via Steam. A PlayStation 4 version was later released just recently on June 14, 2024.
Previously, as of March 31, 2024, the sales were last revealed to have achieved 1.9 million units sold worldwide and ranked 66 on Capcom’s Platinum Titles. This report was before the launch of the PlayStation 4 version.
While the spin-off series of Monster Hunter may not reach the heights of the main series such as that of Monster Hunter World, which sold 20.1 million units worldwide as of March 31, 2024 – Capcom is still satisfied with the sales performance of Monster Hunter Stories 2: Wings of Ruin.
Capcom attributed the game’s success to its “elements unique to RPGs, such as an engaging all-new story about Monster Riders.”
Aside from Monster Hunter Stories 2: Wings of Ruin launching on PlayStation 4 last week, its prequel Monster Hunter Stories was also released on the current generation of consoles on June 14, 2024.
Prior to the launch of both Monster Hunter Stories games, we had the fortunate opportunity to interview Akira Yoshihiro, the producer of the series. You can read the full interview here.
