Alongside a tease of the flagship monster, Capcom has confirmed Monster Hunter Wilds will support crossplay across PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X|S, and PC via Steam.
Announced during Summer Game Fest 2024 by series producer Ryōzō Tsujimoto, players will be able to hunt together with others across all available platforms in the game.
The crossplay feature can also be enabled or disabled via in-game options in Monster Hunter Wilds. Furthermore, players can also become friends with other players from different platforms.
Unfortunately, as noted on the official website, cross-save cross-progression will not be supported as sava data (game progress, paid DLC etc.) will be managed separately by each platform.
“For this reason, it will not be possible to share save data across the different platforms,” Capcom added.
Monsters
Balahara
Showcased in this trailer is Balahara, a monster that was previously subtlety teased from last week’s State of Play showcase trailer, if you have eagle eyes.
The Balahara is a leviathan monster (leviathan confirmed, Lagiacrus please) that uses its serpentine body to slither through the impassible jagged landscape of the Windward Plains.
It secretes a slick substance to hunt as well as burrowing into the smooth desert sand and coils itself in wait before using its body to create a pit of quicksand to ensnare its prey.
Apart from Balahara, we also got a sneak peek at what looks to be the flagship monster of Monster Hunter Wilds, with very brief scenes of a flying wyvern charging up electrical charges and firing off at a poor Doshaguma.
Aside from that, the PlayStation Blog post that was published alongside the new trailer also confirmed that monster turf wars are indeed making a return, but this time small monsters will engage in clashes with large monsters.
Producer Ryōzō Tsujimoto also announced several other things about Monster Hunter Wilds alongside the trailer and crossplay reveal, unveiling that the next trailer for the game will be showcased at gamescom 2024 in August.
He also added that gamescom 2024 will also be the event where public playable demo for Monster Hunter Wilds will be available.
In case you missed it, Capcom revealed a slew of new information for Monster Hunter Wilds last week during the State of Play showcase, which includes story, monsters, and gameplay mechanics.
