2024 PlayX4, one of South Korea’s biggest game events, has come and gone, and we had the opportunity to be a jury for what we believe is the best game for the Best of PlayX4 B2B Award.
Among many submissions at this year’s PlayX4, we selected 3 companies out of 10 that demonstrated games with the most potential and excellence.
Without further ado, here are the winners and their representative games, starting from the third place.
Third Place – The Bricks Games
- Representative: Lee Hyerin, CEO of The Bricks Games
- Game Name: nyanyanstar
The Bricks Games was established in March 2019 and released their debut game “30 days”, which focuses on the themes of suicide prevention.
Currently, The Bricks Games is working on their second title called “nyannyanstar”, which is a casual mobile game with the premise of providing temporary shelter for abandoned cats.
The game tells a heartwarming story of helping cats become influencers and doing good deeds along the way. It all begins with the protagonist moving to a new home and finding a stray cat in a box, beginning to take care of it for 30 days.
This cat-themed casual game has a gameplay that revolves around matching and combining similar items to advance to the next levels. When merging items, new items can be created to decorate the living space for the cat. Furthermore, players can create necessary items for the cats, adding interactivity and fun to the game.
With a cute art style and charming design, we believe it will attract a large number of players in the future and gain widespread acclaim.
Second Place – Tripearl Games
- Representative: Jeong Manson, CEO of Tripearl Games
- Game Name: V.E.D.A
Tripearl Games is an indie studio founded in 2021 and consists of four co-founders with over 20 years of game development experience, having worked on titles such as Little Devil Inside, Blade & Soul 1 & 2, Mu Legend, Sun Online, ArcheAge, and Geosang. Previously, we had the opportunity to interview Jeong along with John Hoo, Business Manager at Tripearl Games, during our time at the Busan Indie Connect Festival last year.
Their upcoming game V.E.D.A is a Soulslike training title where players can learn the weighty combat style of the Soulslike genre. The game follows a protagonist, who is awakened with no memory, and who undergoes combat training in a simulation to uncover the hidden truth.
The Soulslike genre has a strong dedicated player base, and it will grow even more. Given the team’s previous experience in game development, they have demonstrated the capability to produce an engaging and high-quality game.
First Place – PawDragon Company
- Representative: Lee Dongjun, CEO of PawDragon Company
- Game Name: Nyangnyang Island: The Legendary Butler
PawDragon Company is an indie game development team established in late 2021, consisting of four members, and is working on its first mobile project, Nyangnyang Island: The Legendary Butler.
Aimed to launch in August 2024 in South Korea, Nyangnyang Island: The Legendary Butler is a casual RPG set on an island inhabited by magical cats, with adventures, secrets, and various minigames for players to enjoy. Players will be responsible for nurturing over 50 unique cats.
This game fuses the casual gameplay of collecting cats and minigames, along with some more strategic elements by setting detailed growth goals for each cat. In addition to the cats’ cute appearance, the game also features in-depth stories and easter eggs based on the unique traits of each cat breed. Furthermore, offline events, including cat-themed merchandise are planned.
This is a game centered around cats. You collect cats, each with unique abilities that are useful in battles and various game modes. Nyangnyang Island: The Legendary Butler is a highly marketable title and has the potential to grow in popularity. With the right monetization strategy, the game can become profitable in the future.
Our congratulations to PawDragon Company, Tripearl Games, and The Bricks Games on winning the Best of PlayX4 B2B awards.
