Netflix has confirmed that The Witcher TV series will receive a Season 5, but stated that it will be the last season of the series.
The news was announced on the Netflix Tudum site, with some of the cast revealing details about the show.
According to the cast, The Witcher Season 4 has already begun production in the UK, with Season 5 already planned and given the green light.
The creator has also revealed that Liam Hemsworth will be taking over the role of Geralt of Rivia after Henry Cavil stepped down from the role.
“It is with huge pride that we begin shooting our penultimate season of The Witcher with a stellar cast, including some exciting new additions, led by Liam Hemsworth as Geralt of Rivia, we’re thrilled to be able to bring Andrzej Sapkowski’s books to an epic and satisfying conclusion. It wouldn’t be our show if we didn’t push our family of characters to their absolute limit — stay tuned to see how the story ends.” – creator and showrunner Lauren Schmidt Hissrich.
Both Season 4 and 5 will be shot back-to-back, which may imply that the team plans for both seasons to continuously release to conclude the story.
The final two seasons will cover Sapkowski’s three remaining books: Baptism of Fire, The Tower of the Shallow, and Lady of the Lake.
While we did not get an announcement on the date of when Season 4 of The Witcher will be airing, it can be speculated that it will take quite a while as it has just begun production. Knowing how long it takes to make a TV show, it would not be surprising if it would only begin airing in 2025.
The Witcher TV series is a fantasy drama television series created by Lauren Schmidt Hissrich for Netflix. It is based on The Witcher Saga book series of the same name by Polish writer Andrzej Sapkowski.
In the series, the story revolves around the eponymous ‘witcher’, Geralt of Rivia. ‘Witchers’ are monster hunters given superhuman abilities to kill dangerous creatures.
