As we have introduced Plextor M9Pe Series SSD last month, the SSDs are featuring a stylish design yet powerful specification (M9PeY even come with RGB LED lighting). We are lucky to be able to get our hands on them, so here is our PLEXTOR M9Pe Series SSD Review that will focus on M9PeY and M9PeG!
Design
The surface of M9PeY is made of sand-blasted aluminum with a streamlined design. Compared to M8Se’s black and blue theme, the black and red theme on M9PeY brings out a better feel for esports gaming. Thanks to its large surface area, it is having a great cooling ability which improves the stability of data transferring. The RGB LED access light at the side of M9PeY lights up and automatically switch between the 3 different modes when it is switched on, however it is a bit disappointing that we couldn’t customize its LED color.
Similar to its predecessor, M9PeG‘s design focuses on the users’ convenience – its small size enables users to bring it around freely. The surface of M9PeG is made of anodized aluminum, it is having a black and red theme as well as a streamlined design identical to M9PeY‘s. M9PeG is shockproof and shatterproof despite its small size too, so you don’t need to worry about breaking it if it accidentally falls out from your pocket.

Performance
M9Pe Series SSD uses the NVMe 1.2 and utilizes the PCIe Gen 3×4 interface, which in result providing up to 3200MB/s read speed and write speed up to 100MB/s. For random read and write speed, it could also reach up to 400,000 (read) and 300,000 (write) IOPS. Thanks to the exclusive PlexNitro firmware, 64-layer 3D NAND and flagship controller, M9Pe Series SSD could stably perform any heavy tasks for both gaming or work.
Below are the benchmark scores of M9Pe Series SSD (from internet):
M9PeY
M9PeY got a great score in AS SSD Benchmark test – it recorded 2776.32MB/s for sequential read speed and 1854.91MB/s for sequential write speed. While for 4K data, it reads 53.99MB and writes 138.28MB per second. Using IOPS as the measuring unit, the highest 4K-64Thrd reading and writing speed recorded is 222859 iops and 269024 iops. (Result from xfastest)
M9PeG
The performance of M9PeG is sufficiently good as shown in the result of AS SSD Benchmark test. Its sequential read speed is 2697.63MB/s, while its sequential write speed is 1947.26MB/s. Reading and writing 4K data is not a problem too – M9PeG gets a result of 56.52MB/s and 153.38MB/s. Using IOPS as the measuring unit, the highest 4K-64Thrd reading and writing speed recorded is 228603 iops and 268742 iops. (Result from TheSSDReview)
The Verdict
M9Pe Series SSD gives us a satisfactory result no matter it is reading and writing sequential data or 4K data. In other words, it means that you could enjoy HD movies or play 4K video games seamlessly (and faster than many of the other SSDs)! I personally like the LED RGB lighting on M9PeY too as it will be definitely gorgeous when it is activated.
M9Pe Series SSD is not available in Malaysia yet, but we believe we will be able to see it in Malaysia soon! For more information, you can visit their official site or Facebook.
