Just as the Fallout series is about to debut this week on Amazon Prime, a new production update suggests that the second season is likely to be greenlit.
As reported by Variety, the California Film Commission has announced its latest tax-incentive disbursements, awarding $152 million in tax incentives to a dozen of TV shows.
This, of course, includes $25 million in California tax credits for the Fallout TV series and an expectation to relocate to the state for filming in part due to the tax breaks.
However, a show being allocated tax credits to film in California does not guarantee that the production in the state will happen for real.
A year ago, Amazon was awarded a $25 million tax break to move production of Season 2 of Citadel to California, but the show withdrew from the program and instead went ahead with filming in Toronto, Canada.
The tax incentives in California are offered to TV shows that have already started production in another state or overseas, encouraging them to relocate to the state for credits that would reduce budget costs.
Studios would apply for it during multiple funding rounds each year, and credits are given out based on potential job creation.
The first season of Fallout is reportedly carrying a budget of $153 million in qualified expenditures and production was mostly filmed in New York and Utah.
It is worth mentioning that while the tax incentives in California look to be a promising sign for a Season 2 of Fallout, the studio behind the show has yet to make any official announcements about it.
Fallout Season 1 premieres on April 12, 2024, on Amazon Prime.
