In an official blog post, the developers revealed details of what is to come in the upcoming expansion, they also showcased some promotional art on their X/Twitter account.
The story expansion will introduce new enemies that correspond with the theme of the map, such as the new Apex zombies like the decomposing Clotter and the mutilated Whipper. But fret not, as new weapons like the new Sawblade Launcher and Ripper will be added to assist you with the battles.
According to the blog post, the team wanted to build a large sunny playground for the players, and that’s how the concept of SoLA came to be.
“Our new DLC was really created in contrast to Haus,” explains Dambusters Art Director, Adam Olson. “With Haus we wanted to create an intimate, unnerving experience. With SoLA, we wanted to build a large, sunny playground for our slayers, and it really started out when we realized that we couldn’t find any other media that had done zombies in a festival space. It’s the perfect peanut-and-jelly combination.”
With the new expansion, the team wanted to nail the atmosphere and give players the impression of who and where the zombies were the moment they turned. As such, the entire stage is set out to represent that, from the fields, stalls, and VIP areas, to the zombies themselves wearing face glitter and having flowers in their hair, matching the aesthetic of the ideal festival goer.
The SoLA story expansion DLC for Dead Island 2 is scheduled to be released on April 17th, 2024,
