Golden Screen Cinemas (GSC) has officially announced that the much-anticipated Mobile Suit Gundam SEED Freedom movie is coming to Malaysia this April.
As announced on the official GSC X/Twitter, Mobile Suit Gundam SEED Freedom will be screening in the Malaysian cinema beginning on April 4, 2024.
Directed by Mitsuo Fukuda, the original director of Mobile Suit Gundam SEED and Mobile Suit Gundam SEED Destiny, this latest animated film will be serving as a sequel to both series.
Originally in development since 2006, the production of the movie was ultimately delayed due to the poor health conditions of Chiaki Morosawa, the screenwriter and the creator of the fictional universe of “Cosmic Era”, the world of Mobile Suit Gundam SEED.
Morosawa sadly passed away in 2006, halting the movie production for a few years before resuming and releasing on 26 January 2024 in Japan.
After releasing in Japan, Mobile Suit Gundam SEED Freedom quickly became the highest-grossing film in the franchise, selling 630,000 tickets in just 3 days, surpassing Mobile Suit Gundam III: Encounters in Space.
Taking place one year after the events of SEED Destiny, the film will be set in Cosmic Era 75 and involves protagonist Kira Yamato once again as he intervenes in battles in various places as a member of the newly established world peace monitoring organization Compass with Lacus Clyne leading as president.
The movie will feature the voice cast of Sōichirō Hoshi, Rie Tanaka, Akira Ishida, Nanako Mori, Kenichi Suzumura, and Maaya Sakamoto among others.
