Developer FromSoftware has not ruled out plans for a possible second expansion or a sequel to their critically acclaimed RPG Elden Ring just yet.
In a recent interview with IGN, Hidetaka Miyazaki, president of FromSoftware and director behind the “Soulsborne” series, was asked about potentially more story for Elden Ring beyond the upcoming Shadow of the Erdtree expansion, whether more DLC or a direct sequel.
“We don’t want to say this is the end of the Elden Ring saga for now,” Miyazaki replied. “I think we said a similar thing at the end of Dark Souls 3. We didn’t want to flatten those possibilities or put a pin in them just at that time.”
“And it’s a similar story with Elden Ring. We don’t want to discourage the possibilities for that. There might be more ideas in the future.”
“We don’t have any current plans to make a second DLC or a sequel, but we definitely don’t want to snuff out that possibility. We think that there could well be something in the future.”
The release date for Elden Ring’s first expansion, Shadow of the Erdtree, was finally announced on Wednesday after nearly a year of waiting since it was first teased during the game’s first anniversary.
Since the release of Elden Ring, the game has received international acclaim and success, with 12 million sales made in less than a month and 20 million sales in a year.
It also went on to receive multiple awards, including winning Game of The Year at The Game Awards in 2022, while also winning many other categories in the same event.
