Disney Epic Mickey: Rebrushed Enhanced Remake, Announced

Disney Games has announced Disney Epic Mickey: Rebrushed, an enhanced remake of the 2010 game will be released on PlayStation 4, PlayStation 5, Xbox Series One, Xbox Series X|S, Nintendo Switch, and Windows.

The game was first revealed on the Nintendo Direct: Partner Showcase today. A full announcement trailer was then released by publisher THQ Nordic a few hours after the reveal.

The game is slated to release in 2024, but the exact date has yet to be announced.

The original Disney Epic Mickey was developed by Junction Point Studios and published by Disney Interactive Studios, it was released for the Wii in 2010.

In the game, you play as Mickey Mouse after he has been abducted by the Blot, an entity that Mickey Mouse accidentally created decades before when he was fiddling with a model made by the Sorcerer Yen Sid.

After being abducted, Mickey Mouse now explores the Wastelands, a ruined forgotten world where disused and obscure Disney characters inhabit. Armed with Yen Sid’s magic paintbrush, Mickey Mouse now aims to free the Wastelands from the torment of his accidental creation, the Shadow Blot.

Disney Epic Mickey is an action-platforming game with the main focus being on the magic paintbrush’s power, as the paintbrush can have positive or negative effects depending on how it is used. You can choose to befriend an enemy with Paint or destroy them with Thinner, the choice is up to you.

The original game also features a morality system, much like other games in its era such as Infamous and Shadow the Hedgehog, in which your choices will impact what will be available to you, and how your journey would go.

Needless to say, the remake would most likely add new features to the game. But it would be interesting to see how the original mechanics be implemented into the modern remake.
