Prior to the release of the Xbox open beta version of the critically acclaimed MMORPG, Final Fantasy 14 online, Square Enix has announced that players will need to have a Game Pass subscription on top of subscription fee for the game itself.
The announcement can be found from the Square Enix blog post regarding the Xbox open beta test for Final Fantasy 14, in the “How to Participate” section.
“The Free Trial version, including the open beta test, will not require an Xbox Game Pass (Core or Ultimate) plan to play. However, the full Xbox Series X|S version will require an Xbox Game Pass (Core or Ultimate) plan to play.” it reads.
This means that, in order to play the full version of the game, players will need to be subscribed to both the Game Pass, as well as the monthly live subscription of Final Fantasy 14, which is an interesting decision to make considering both PlayStation and PC players are only required to just pay for the game’s subscription and nothing more.
Square Enix had also mentioned in the blog post that the Xbox version of the game will be launched immediately following the conclusion of the open beta test, though the exact date as to when it will end has yet to be confirmed.
Xbox players who are interested in trying out Final Fantasy 14 can participate in the open beta test for Xbox Series X|S on 21st February 2024.
