The recent launch of developer pocketpair’s Palworld has broken records, with the game surpassing 1 million concurrent players on steam.
According to SteamDB, Palworld has peaked over 1.2 million concurrent players on steam, just days after the early access game launched on the platform on 19th January 2024.
As of time of writing, the open world monster-collecting survival game sits comfortably on top of the most played games on steam, being placed in the top 5 spot, beating other notable titles such as Cyberpunk 2077 as well as the 2023 Game of the Year, Baldur’s Gate 3.
This feat is worth highlighting considering it would make Palworld one of the most successful paid game on this metric as the other 4 titles (PUBG: Battlegrounds, Counter-Strike 2, Lost Ark and Dota 2) are free-to-play games; however, it should also be noted that PUBG was not initially free-to-play when it received the record-breaking 3.2 million concurrent players six years ago.
According to the developers on Twitter, Palworld has sold over 4 million copies in about 3 days, with the tweet stating the latest sales being 86K units per hour, with an overall rating of “Very Positive” on Steam, with 93% of the user ratings praising the game.
