SEGA appears to be planning something for The Game Awards 2023, with a cryptic teaser sent to fighting game influencers.

Multiple fighting game content creators specifically have received letters from SEGA, telling them to check out the show for a special announcement.
“New Era, New Energy: Make Sure To Tune In To The Game Awards December 7th”, the letter reads.
The first person to share the letter was fighting game content creator Curiousjoi, who opened the letter on camera to invite her followers to tune in to the awards show.
Similarly, fellow fighting game streamer Maximilian also shared his own letter, noting that SEGA only seemed to be sending these out to streamers known for their fighting game coverage.
“I got one too. Curious, have these gone out to others that are NOT huge fighting game creators?”, he posits.
Many fans have taken to mean one thing: that the announcement must be fighting game related.
The language does track with a possible Virtua Fighter announcement- the last Virtua Fighter game was a re-release of Virtua Fighter 5, which was supposed to be the big esports title for the series (literally being called Virtua Fighter Esports in Japan).
One fan even pointed out the font in the letter matches the one used in the Ultimate Match trailer.
“It seems to use the same font that the VF5 Ultimate Showdown trailer used, just in blue/not italicized. VF6 likely“, writes Twitter user Brodoof
That being said, SEGA is being mum on the announcement, and fans can find out for themselves at The Game Awards.
SEGA has published multiple fighting games in the past- aside from Virtua Fighter they’re also behind Persona 4 Arena, as well as Sonic The Fighters, the latter of which is playable as a minigame in Like A Dragon Gaiden: The Man Who Erased His Name.
