The latest Hayao Miyazaki film The Boy and the Heron has been delayed in Malaysia, with the movie being pushed back two weeks.
Encore Films Malaysia has updated the release date for The Boy And The Heron in Malaysia, announcing that the film will now begin screening on December 14th.
The film was originally supposed to start distribution on November 30th.
The Boy and the Heron is a fantasy film by Studio Ghibli, following the adventures of a boy named Mahito Maki pulled into a fantastical world looking for his mother.
Like Miyazaki’s other films it contains all the typical hallmarks of a Studio Ghibli outing, from its charming animation to grim overhang of conflict, this time being set against the backdrop of the Pacific War.
The Boy And The Heron released in Japan in July 2023, with much of the movie’s plot kept under wraps due to the reduced marketing presence of the film.
In recent years Malaysians have enjoyed better distribution of Japanese films, with titles like Digimon Adventure 02: The Beginning, Gridman Universe and Shin Kamen Rider all releasing in cinemas just months after their initial Japanese theatrical run.
Similarly, fans looking for more Studio Ghibli charm can also fine some of Miyazaki’s best-known work like Ponyo and Howl’s Moving Castle on Netflix.
