TikTok parent company ByteDance is winding down its Nuverse gaming brand, as the company reportedly works to move away from the games industry.
In a report by Reuters citing internal sources, they say that the company will halt development of unreleased games by December, and will divest its already launched titles.
Following the report it looks like ByteDance has publicly acknowledged the decision, as they’ve issued a statement to Chinese outlet Jiemian.
“It is true that there will be business direction and organizational adjustments, [we] will be more focused on some innovative games and related technology exploration, but at the same time will also do a good job in the continuous operation of the products already on line, to fully protect the rights and interests of players.”, the statement reads.
The statement noticeably omits any mention of divesting its currently released titles such as the widely popular Marvel Snap.
It should be noted that the decisions made by ByteDance will only affect the Nuverse brand- Reuters report mentions that casual games on TikTok as well as the Ohayoo brand will remain untouched.
This tracks with a previous report that the company is intersted in selling Moonton games, developer of the popular Mobile Legends: Bang Bang game.
