Featuring a strategic combat system and Vanillaware’s distinctive art style, Unicorn Overlord incorporates elements that hearken back to the era of 16-bit gaming, while also allowing players to play through online multiplayer via the Coliseum.
Furthermore, players will get to meet new characters who will join them as companions to face off against the great evil in classic fashion.
Meet the Companions
Travis (voiced by Daiki Yamashita) "Fancy way to refer to a spy. You need intel, dirt, or just the latest weather, I'm your man." Travis was a spy from the Cornian Liberation Army, tasked to collect intel until he met and opted to join Alain. |
|
Yahna (voiced by Aoi Yuki) "It's one of the most prized techniques my master taught me. And not a feat for the weak of heart, mind you." A young witch from the Witches’ Hamlet who managed to escape the Zenoiran soldiers by morphing into a cat during their hunt for witches. |
|
Clive (voiced by Takuya Eguchi) "Now come. Together, we shall see Zenoira's ambition defeated!" A holy knight of the fallen Kingdom of Cornia. Lauded since his time as a squire for his wisdom and bravery, it was not long before he attained knighthood. He has made use of his talents by carrying out Josef's directions and laying the groundwork for the Liberation Army. |
|
Chloe (voiced by Nao Toyama) "I'll give my all in the royal name, Your Highness." Daughter to a friend of Josef's. After Chloe joins the Liberation Army, she studies as his apprentice, learning the ways of combat. Despite being close friends with Alain, Chloe always maintains a sense of decorum towards him as prince. |
|
Hodrick (voiced by Kenta Miyake) "I know not why you've summoned me here, my prince, but I am ever yours to command. What is it?" Former Cornian knight who served as the faithful bodyguard to Queen Ilenia, however, he was defeated during the rebellion and now a prisoner of Valmore. |
|
Melisandre (voiced by Fairouz Ai) "And why shouldn't I? There's not a man in the world who could hope to equal me." Melisandre is the head of Cornia’s decorated House Meillet. She lost her parents and brother at a young age due a deadly disease and it was her aunt and uncle who gave her the tutelage to assume the house’s mantle. |
Nations of the Realm
The continent of Fevrith was once the home to five nations, namely the Kingdom of Cornia, Drakenhold, Elheim, Bastorias, and the Holy Kingdom of Albion.
However, after Galerius’s unforeseen rebellion, the nations fell under him and his newly restored Zenoira Empire’s rule.
Zenoira A grand empire that is known to have once ruled over most of the world. At the peak of its prosperity, it boasted great cultural and technological advancement, but according to legend, it fell in a single day to some tragic catastrophe. |
|
The Kingdom of Cornia A kingdom located at the heart of the continent and commanding the most territory. Possessing fertile land and immense military might, its lords are fiercely loyal to the royal family. Queen Ilenia's name is also considered sacred amongst the kingdom's subjects. |
|
Drakenhold A kingdom occupying the southeastern mountain and desert regions of the continent, known for its abundant mineral resources. Its wyvern forces form the core of the kingdom's might. Relations with Cornia have long been strained over border conflicts. |
|
Elheim A nation of elves and dark elves to the southwest of the continent, cloaked in lush greenery. Elheim has a unique system of governance with the Turenós at its head. It is said that the Winding Wood prevents outsiders from infiltrating in the slightest. |
|
Bastorias A nation of bestrals fully spanning the vast frigid region to the north of the continent. Various races reside here, and most of the bestrals make for hardy soldiers. There is no king at present, and national affairs are controlled by a gathering of clan heads. |
|
The Holy Kingdom of Albion A theocracy that claims dominion over the extensive island to the west of the continent. Grounded in its faith and with the Pontifex of Palevian Orthodoxy at its head, the kingdom holds significant sway diplomatically and militaristically. Many winged folk live within its borders. |
Players can freely explore the vast reaches of Fevrith, coming across a variety of quests and resolving all manner of disputes and odd jobs along the way.
New stages will be opened up by quests and completing them will yield player rewards, and even event that arises will be registered as quests.
While exploring, players will encounter enemy patrols and engage in battle where defeating them would earn players experience and honors.
Should players suffer a defeat, however, they will be sent back to a previously liberated region.
Rebuild Towns
When players defeat the Imperial Army in stages and liberate Fevrith’s towns and forts, they will unlock shops and various facilities around the map.
Meanwhile, by liberating Fevrith’s towns and forts, enemies will stop patrolling the area and make exploration a lot easier.
Towns dilapidated under the Imperial Army’s rule then can be rebuilt by managing resources such as delivering materials.
As players rebuild towns, various useful facilities and features will be unlocked, including taverns in walled cities for some piping hot meals.
To deliver materials to towns, players can harvest them by reaping resources from certain regions of Fevrith, from its beaches to its grasslands.
Other collectible resources are ores which players can collect by paying gold to play a mining game in mines, allowing players to even potentially dig up treasures.
For added security, players can also station one of their companions as town guards in each rebuilt town, granting bonus gold for every stage the player clears as well as collecting harvested resources around said towns.
In forts, players can hold mock battles between the units they have organized as well as expand their armies, increasing the number by up to ten units of five members each.
Players would need a certain level of renown to unlock a fort’s features, which can be earned by clearing quests, rebuilding towns, and more.
Unicorn Overlord is scheduled to be released on 8 March 2024 for the PlayStation 4, PlayStation 5, Nintendo Switch, and Xbox Series X|S.
