My Internship Life At GamerBraves

When I was looking for an internship opportunity, I wanted to do something more adventurous than just having a mundane office job like everyone else, and fate led me to GamerBraves, a news site that focuses on games coverage.

The prospect of being able to write about games as a job really intrigued me, as I already had a habit of writing guides, tier lists, and reviews for the games and anime I enjoy in my leisure, so this job seemed like the perfect fit for me.

Doing My Dailies

When reading my articles, it may seem like I spend all day playing games and watching movies, but in reality, I don’t even get to touch most of the content I cover, as my job is to report on the news. At the end of the day, its still a job, but I’d rather be reporting and writing about video games and anime than be sitting at a boring desk job.

Although reporting on news wasn’t all that exciting, I did occasionally get to do content I was passionate about. Guides and wish lists were some of my favorite, as I got to research about the games I actually enjoyed  and play them.

Aside from that, I was also given the opportunity to review games and movies. Watching Five Nights At Freddy’s and playing Pokemon with the legitimate reason of needing it for work eases the guilt that I would’ve otherwise felt if not for this job, as it would be a considered waste of time elsewhere. Having an outlet to publish my thoughts and actually have people read them also felt really gratifying.

Challenges Along The Way

Initially, the biggest challenge for me was figuring out how to optimize the Search Engine Optimization (SEO), as finding methods to push my articles to the top of the search results can be quite strenuous. Despite it being difficult at first, it made me a more creative person overall. From finding ways to hit the necessary word count to figuring out the right keywords to use, these experiences eventually made it second nature, and made me a better critical thinker overall.

When I first started, my articles weren’t the best. But as I got the opportunity to work with real industry professionals with experience in the field, I gained a lot of insight on how to improve them, as they gave me advice on how to improve my writing, corrected any errors I’ve made, and taught me the best way to approach certain topics. By the end of my internship at GamerBraves, the speed of which I write had increased a lot, which would definitely come in handy when I return to doing coursework when continuing my education.

Workplace Culture

The environment in the office was fun, as everyone in the office is a gamer, and I could chat about my interest in anime and games with my colleagues. Even discussions about work consisted of topics that were actually fun, as opposed to conversations about numbers and spreadsheets.

Everyone treated me like one of them, and I’ve never felt left out during my time here. Even when I wasn’t as familiar with a particular topic, they would take the time to explain it and include me in the conversation, which was something I really appreciated.

Closing Thoughts

Though my internship at GamerBraves was short, I’m surprised at how much I’ve grown. From barely being able to keep up to being able to handle myself for the most part, my writing improved beyond my expectations. Even if the knowledge about the gaming industry wouldn’t help much outside of this field, the lessons I’ve gained from my experiences here will definitely help me in the long run.
