[Guide] Honkai Star Rail – Should You Pull for Huohuo

The test of courage challenge must be difficult for Huohuo as she made her way through the eerie forest and ended up in the latest update of Honkai Star Rail, Version 1.5 The Crepuscule Zone.

This timid and pitiable Foxian girl is Huohuo, a Ten-Lords Commission Judge-in-training who has a heliobus named Tail sealed in her tail and became a “cursed one”, attracting inhuman and ghostly beings to frighten her poor soul. Despite her fear, she has to muster the courage as she is entrusted to eradicate vile spirits.

Huohuo is a 5✦ Wind character who follows the Path of Abundance, specializing in healing and cleansing off debuffs. Aside from heals, Huohuo can also regenerate Energy and bolster the ATK stats for her allies.

Huohuo swings her flag and deals Wind DMG to a single enemy.

Talent – Possession: Ethereal Metaflow

After using her Skill, Huohuo gains Divine Provision, lasting for 2 turns. The duration decreases by 1 turn at the start of Huohuo’s each turn.

If Huohuo possesses Divine Provision when an ally’s turn starts or when they use their Ultimate, Huohuo restores HP to that ally by a percentage equal to her Max HP. At the same time, every other ally with 50% HP or lower receives heals once.

When Divine Provision is triggered, dispel 1 debuff from the primary ally who received healing. This effect can be triggered up to 6 times and using Skill again resets the activation counts.

Skill – Talisman: Protection

When cast, Huohuo dispels 1 debuff from a single ally and immediately restores their HP based on a certain amount of Huohuo’s Max HP. Additionally, allies adjacent to the target will receive a percentage of the healing.

Ultimate – Tail: Spiritual Domination

Unleash the power of Tail, regenerate a certain amount of Energy to Huohuo’s allies, and enhance their ATK for 2 turns.

Technique – Fiend: Impeachment of Evil

Tail pops up and terrorizes surrounding enemies, inflicting Horror-Struck on them. Entities under the Horror-Struck effect will flee away from Huohuo for 10 seconds.

While entering battle against enemies in Horror-Struck, there is a 100% base chance of reducing every enemy’s ATK for 2 turns.

Ascension Traces

Fearful to Act (Ascension 2)

When the battle begins, Huohuo immediately gains Divine Provision for 1 turn.

The Cursed One (Ascension 4)

Increases the chance of Huohuo resisting Crowd Control debuffs by 35%.

Stress Reaction to Horror (Ascension 6)

Whenever Huohuo’s Talent is triggered to heal allies, she regenerates 1 Energy.

Ability Breakdown

Taking a look into her kit, this timid spirit exorcist has a rather straightforward skill set with an emphasis on team sustainability and supportive buffs, making her an extremely versatile support.

One of the most notable parts of her kit is her Talent, which strengthens her healing prowess by providing a constant stream of HP restoration. Given the right setup, this Talent can be kept almost active all the time as whenever Huohuo uses her Skill, she gains Divine Provision.

As long as she has Divine Provision, anytime an ally’s turn starts or uses their Ultimate, they will be healed while also having a debuff removed from them. The debuff dispel component is something that should be noted as it can be triggered up to 6 times, making her the Queen of Anti-Crowd Control since no other characters are capable of such consistent and frequent cleanses.

Another notable feature of Huohuo is her Ultimate, an ability that positions Huohuo more than a regular healer but also a powerful buffer. This pivotal ability helps replenish a good amount of Energy to the team while everyone’s ATK, boosting allies’ damage output while allowing them to cast their Ultimates.

Think of this ability as an AoE variant of Tingyun’s Ultimate and consider how prominent she is as a support in many teams, Huohuo will be equally loved especially since she can also contribute to the team’s overall survivability.

Eidolons

If you are considering Huohuo’s Eidolons, note that she is already a powerful support without them but any of her Eidolons do further empower her.

E1 - Anchored to Vessel, Specters Nestled	Abbreviated Effect: Extends the Divine Provision duration given by her Talent by 1 turn. Furthermore, if Huohuo has Divine Provision, all allies gain a 12% increased SPD.
	Notes: A great Eidolon to consider as it makes Huohuo more Skill Point efficient while ensuring her Talent stays active more often, as well as boosting the overall team’s SPD.
E2 - Sealed in Tail, Wraith Subdued	Abbreviated Effect: If Huohuo has Divine Provision, prevents an ally from getting knocked down by a fatal blow and restores their HP up to 50% of their Max HP. This effect reduces Divine Provision duration by 1 turn and can only be triggered 2 times per battle.
	Notes: Grants 2 revives, which can be helpful in certain tough encounters.
E3 - Cursed by Fate, Moths to Flame	Abbreviated Effect: Gain 2 Ultimate levels and increase max level to 15. Gain 2 Talent levels and increase max level to 15.
	Notes: A boost to two of her most powerful abilities, so worth considering.
E4 - Tied in Life, Bound to Strife	Abbreviated Effect: When healing an ally via Skill or Talent, the less HP they have, the more heals they will receive, up to a maximum of 80%.
	Notes: Greatly bolsters her healing output, though perhaps too much healing.
E5 - Mandated by Edict, Evils Evicted	Abbreviated Effect: Gain 2 Skill levels and increase max level to 15. Gain 1 Basic ATK level and increase max level to 10.
	Notes: While the Skill level increase enhances her healing, her E4 already gave her plenty. On the flip side, Huohuo is not going to be built as a DPS so the Basic ATK level increase is only a very minor increase in damage.
E6 - Woven Together, Cohere Forever	Abbreviated Effect: When healing an ally, increases their DMG output by 50% for 2 turns.
	Notes: She went from a strong buffer to an insane one. Considering she has almost 100% uptime when it comes to providing heals, this buff can be active almost every time for some sweet damage increase.

Recommended Relics and Planar Ornaments

When it comes to Relic and Planar Ornament choices, concentrate on providing her with sufficient HP and Outgoing Healing to optimize her healing potential as ensuring team survivability is her main role.

Considering how powerful her Ultimate can be, the Energy Regeneration Rate is a good main stat to aim for in a Planar Ornament Link Rope.

Messenger Traversing Hackerspace x4	2-Piece Effect - Increases SPD by 6%. 4-Piece Effect - When the wearer uses their Ultimate on an ally, SPD for all allies increases by 12% for 1 turn(s). This effect cannot be stacked.	Reason: Since Huohuo can already provide a good amount of healing on her own, you can opt for 4 pieces of Messenger Traversing Hackspace for increased SPD while also boosting her teammates’ SPD when she casts Ultimate, transforming her to an even more potent buffer.
Passerby of Wandering Cloud x4	2-Piece Effect - Increases Outgoing Healing by 10%. 4-Piece Effect - At the start of the battle, immediately regenerates 1 Skill Point.	Reason: A no-brainer choice if you want to focus on Huohuo’s prowess as a healer. The additional Skill Point at the start of battle can also serve to help set up certain strategies early.
Passerby of Wandering Cloud x2	2-Piece Effect - Increases Outgoing Healing by 10%. 2-Piece Effect - Increases SPD by 6%.	Reason: Combining Passerby of Wandering Cloud and Messenger Traversing Hackspace would net Huohuo a good balance of healing output and SPD.
Messenger Traversing Hackerspace x2
Passerby of Wandering Cloud x2	2-Piece Effect - Increases Outgoing Healing by 10%. 2-Piece Effect - Increases Max HP by 12%.	Reason: Alternatively, 2 pieces of Passerby of Wandering Cloud and 2 pieces of Longevous Disciple help to provide both a healing potency boost as well as maximum HP to further enhance her healing.

Recommended Planar Ornaments
Broken Keel	2-Piece Effect - Increases the wearer’s Effect RES by 10%. When the wearer’s Effect RES is at 30% or higher, all allies’ CRIT DMG increases by 10%.	Reason: Broken Keel allows Huohuo to be a crucial buffer to some offensive teams by providing allies with bonus CRIT DMG so long as she exists, though note that she requires 30% or higher Effect RES to trigger the effect.
	2-Piece Effect - Increases the wearer’s Max HP by 12%. When the wearer’s SPD reaches 120 or higher, all allies’ ATK increases by 8%.	Reason: Similar to Broken Keel, the ATK bonus helps further the team’s offensive capabilities as long as Huohuo is kicking around on the field, while the increased Max HP bolsters her healing. Note that she needs to be at 120 SPD or higher for the ATK boost to take effect.

Recommended Light Cones

Like any other 5★ limited characters in Honkai Star Rail, Huohuo follows a similar pattern, which is that her signature Light Cone is specially designed with her kit in mind, thus it will be her best-in-slot.

Her signature Light Cone is “Night of Fright” and its effects are as follows:

Increases the wearer’s Energy Regeneration Rate by 12%. When any ally uses their Ultimate, the wearer restores HP for the ally currently with the lowest HP percentage by an amount equal to 10% of the healed ally’s Max HP. When the wearer provides healing for an ally, increases the healed ally’s ATK by 2.4%. This effect can stack up to 5 times and last for 2 turns.

Alternatively, there are also quite a few great Abundance Light Cone choices in Honkai Star Rail for Huohuo, such as the following:

Time Waits for No One	Morn, Noon, Dusk, and Night Effect: Increases the wearer's Max HP by 18% and Outgoing Healing by 12%. When the wearer heals allies, record the amount of Outgoing Healing. When any ally launches an attack, a random attacked enemy takes additional DMG equal to 36% of the recorded Outgoing Healing value. This Additional DMG is of the same Type as the wearer's, is not affected by other buffs, and can only occur 1 time per turn.	Reason: Bailu’s signature Light Cone is a great option as it bolsters Huohuo’s survivability while granting her some damage-dealing capabilities. Note that you would need to build Outgoing Healing on her to take advantage of the converted damage.
4★ Light Cone(s)
Shared Feeling	Cure and Repair Effect: Increases the wearer's Outgoing Healing by 10%. When using Skill, regenerates 2 Energy for all allies.	Reason: Strikes a good balance of empowering Huohuo’s healing efficiency and support capabilities. While a versatile choice, Huohuo may not be casting Skill as much to take advantage of the Energy regeneration.
Perfect Timing	Refraction of Sightline Effect: Increases the wearer's Effect RES by 16% and increases Outgoing Healing by an amount that is equal to 33% of Effect RES. Outgoing Healing can be increased this way by up to 15%.	Effect: Solid option as it greatly improves Huohuo’s healing efficiency while granting her a good amount of Effect RES, allowing her to resist crowd control effects and debuffs. Not to mention, the Effect RES bonus allows her to run Broken Keel Planar Ornaments.
Post-Op Conversation	Mutual Healing Effect: Increases the wearer's Energy Regeneration Rate by 8% and increases Outgoing Healing when they use their Ultimate by 12%.	Reason: Anyway to contribute to Huohuo’s Energy needs made a piece of good equipment for her.

Teams and Synergies

As a healer, she could be slotted into any team composition. However, unlike some of her peers, she has an Ultimate that grants a notable increase in ATK boost and Energy to her teammates. This particular aspect of her kit gave her an edge over pure healer as she now also served as a secondary buffer in the team and paired well in supporting any DPS that scales well with the ATK stats.

Since she is going to be quite Skill Point (SP) neutral, she is also a natural fit into many team compositions even if there are SP-hungry allies. As such, she can be effective in pretty much any team, and some examples include:

Playing the crucial role of providing substantial healing to the team, Jingliu can enter the Spectral Transmigration state to deliver potent Ice DMG while allies would be healed up frequently, making the composition more comfortable to play. Meanwhile, Pela’s DEF reduction in combination with Huohuo’s ATK boost greatly bolsters Jingliu’s damage potential.
Huohuo	Imbibitor Lunae	Bronya	Tingyun
One of the most destructive main DPS in the game, Imbibitor Lunae can greatly benefit from Huohuo’s Ultimate buffs as in addition to ATK boost, the Energy gain allows him to cast Ultimate more often, gaining Squama Sacrosancta to ease SP management. This is especially true when you paired him with Tingyun as well, while Bronya is there for even more damage buffs.

From all we have known of Huohuo, she will be sure to put evil spirits to rest with her powerful supportive abilities, even if she is rather timid about dealing with the supernatural. From her efficient healing output to powerful buffs, while also armed with incredible cleansing capabilities, Huohuo is easily one of the most flexible supports that can fit into any team and greatly bolster her allies to a greater degree.

All in all, you can consider pulling for Huohuo if you require a strong sustain character or one that can provide extra Energy and ATK to bolster your current DPS.
