During the Overwatch 2 panel at Blizzcon 2023, the development team had a panel talk discussing what’s next in store for the upcoming seasons for the game.
Clash Mode
The Overwatch 2 development team talked more about Overwatch 2’s upcoming new game mode called “Clash”, which is a PvP focused mode that is scheduled to release in 2024.
Clash features 5 different capture points, with the centre point unlocked at the start of the round. In this new game mode, your team first needs to capture the center point, then also push forward and capture the two points in the enemy team’s territory. The other team has to defend these points while also trying to counter-attack and push back. Whoever captures all five capture points will be the victor.
Hero Mastery
5 new heroes will be added to Hero Mastery in Season 8: Genji, Mei, D.Va, Echo, and Lucio. Along with it comes a new 3 player co-op mode called the Hero Gauntlet, which is something similar to a tower defence mode.
Competitive Rework
Season 9 will see a rework to the Overwatch 2 competitive scene, introducing a new system called Competitive Overview which will show your rank progress with more clarity. A new rank will be introduced called Ultimate, which is a rank higher than Grandmaster.
Along with the changes comes brand new Emerald Weapons.
New Heroes
Three new heroes will be joining the Overwatch 2 roster. The first being an already playable Tank hero with Mauga. The second that was teased is a support hero by the Codename “Space Ranger”. The last being the damage hero Venture.
