Blizzard Entertainment has gone into more detail about the upcoming Battleground Duos mode for Hearthstone which was announced earlier today.
There’s still no release date for Battleground Duos, though the BlizzCon show floor will have a playable demo for attendees to try.
In a presentation, they explained the specifics of how the new Duos mode would work- specifically which elements of the game are shared between teammates and which aren’t.
For example, while Armor and Health are shared between teammates, hands and decks are not- players will still be required to play their turns normally, with gold and Tiers .
A special portal button allows you to spectate your partner, as well as passing cards between each other hands for 1 Gold.
It should be noted that cards can only be added to each other’s hands, rather than being able to summon to their boards.
For combat, being able to clear one opponent’s board will cause their partner’s board to appear, and if you can clear both boards your partner’s board will also be summoned to storm your opponent’s team.
Hearthstone Battleground Duos isn’t just a new way to play with existing Heroes for Hearthstone though- the mode will also introduce new bespoke Heroes for the mode, such as the Ogre Cho’Gall that requires both players to choose either head of the iconic character.
The gameplay mode will also feature a ping system, allowing players to communicate with each other even if they’re not playing it together using any of the buttons during the Recruit phase or other emotes.
