The latest film by Studio Ghibli, titled “The Boy and the Heron”, has received a release date for Malaysia.
According to a Tweet by the official TGV Malaysia Twitter account, The Boy and the Heron will release on November 30th, 2023.
The Boy and the Heron was inspired by Genzaburo Yoshino’s novel How Do You Live?, which tells the story of Mahito, a young 12-year-old boy who struggles to settle in a new town after his mother’s death.
After being informed that his mother is still alive when a talking heron, Mahito enters an abandoned tower in search of her, which takes him to another world.
Before it premiered in theatres in Japan, no one knew much about film aside from the fact that it was likely the animation icon’s final motion picture due to its unorthodox marketing campaign, as there were no trailers or official images beyond a solitary poster for the film.
The Boy and the Heron in Malaysia will be distributed by Encore Films Malaysia, who are responsible for distributing several other films in the country including The Tunnel To Summer, The Exit Of Goodbyes, Suzume, and Tokyo Revengers 2: Bloody Halloween.
