Netflix has announced the release date for the live-action adaptation of Yu Yu Hakusho, more than three decades since its release.
The series will premier exclusively on Netflix on December 14th, 2023.
Netflix has said that they will be taking the same approach they took when adapting the One Piece manga with this adaptation, utilising a global one-team production strategy to provide the same level of commitment to the production of Yu Yu Hakusho.
Yu Yu Hakusho was created by Yoshihiro Togashi, and was serialised in Weekly Shonen Jump for four years starting in 1990.
This live-action aims to breathe new life into the story, so fans old and new can enjoy the series in a new light.
Yu Yu Hakusho tells the story of Yusuke Urameshi, a teenage delinquent who is struck and killed by a car while attempting to save a child’s life.
After a number of tests presented to him by Koenma, the son of the ruler of the afterlife Underworld, Yusuke is revived and appointed the title of “Underworld Detective”.
The Manga of Yu Yu Hakusho has over 78 million copies in circulation worldwide by 2022, making it one of the best-selling manga series of all time.
