Final Fantasy VII Rebirth Clarifies The Pronunciation Of Cait Sith

Final Fantasy VII Rebirth has finally clarified the pronunciation of Cait Sith, ending the 26-year long debate.

A tweet by The Official Final Fantasy VII Twitter account has confirmed that Cait Sith is not pronounced in Scottish Gaelic, which would be “Ket Shee”, and instead pronounced how it is read in English, “Kate Sihth”.

The official Japanese pronunciation for Cait Sith is “Ketto Shī”, which is much closer to the Scottish origins of Cait Sith.

Cait Sith was based on a fairy creature from Celtic mythology, Cat Sith, which is pronounced “Cat Shee”, similarly to Ban Sith, more commonly known as the Banshee.

The biggest problem with the pronunciation is that the name comes from an actual Gaelic word, and those who are looking to pronounce the word correctly may find the game version instead.

Although fans are divided with the confirmation, with some finding the pronunciation to be inaccurate, most seem to be happy that the debate has finally been put to rest.

This is likely the first time that Cait Sith would be name drop in a Final Fantasy game, considering the original Final Fantasy VII was text-based, and all other subsequent releases avoiding pronouncing his name, often using terms such as “you know who” in its place.

Final Fantasy VII Rebirth is scheduled to be released next year exclusively on the PlayStation 5.
